90 years: A Legacy of Local Service
“This anniversary isn’t just about looking back on where we’ve been. It’s also about celebrating the relationships we’ve built and recommitting to helping individuals, families, and businesses thrive for years to come.”
— Members Cooperative Credit Union
A brief history of Members Cooperative Credit Union
Members Cooperative Credit Union has been serving Minnesota communities since 1936, growing from a small credit union in Cloquet to a regional financial cooperative with locations across northeastern and central Minnesota.
A key milestone came in 2015 when Members merged with Lake State Credit Union, bringing locations in Moose Lake, Sandstone, Isanti, and North Branch into the Members family.
Today, Members serves communities throughout the region and surpassed $1 billion in assets in 2022, while remaining committed to the cooperative values and local service that have guided our organization for nearly 90 years.
What this 90-year milestone means to your organization
Reaching the 90-year mark is a pretty special milestone for us. It reflects decades of trust from our members and the communities we serve. Since 1936, we’ve grown and changed alongside our communities while staying true to the values that make credit unions different.
This anniversary isn’t just about looking back on where we’ve been. It’s
also about celebrating the relationships we’ve built, including those in the North Branch area, and recommitting to helping individuals, families, and businesses thrive for years to come.
A few fun facts
The credit union was founded in 1936 by seven men and one woman who each
contributed $5.
• Members currently has 12 branches, over 56,000 members, and one giant
inflatable cowbell. (Check it out at Grandma’s Marathon, next year!)
• Recognizing the close relationship between financial wellbeing and mental
wellbeing, we recently launched “Project Horizon”, a long-term commitment
dedicating $1,000,000 toward our goal to support mental wellbeing in our branch
communities.
• Our credit union is committed to our members and communities, and so are our
employees! Our team members logged 4,754 hours volunteering and
participating in community engagement activities in 2025.
Our twelve branches are our home bases, and we work hard to build welcoming and
convenient spaces for our members and communities. The most recent building project
we’ve completed was our new location in North Branch, which we celebrated with a
grand opening in 2025. If you haven’t visited, stop by!
Why serving North Branch is important to you?
Making a positive impact in our communities is something I care deeply about. I am driven by the chance to help others succeed, create meaningful connections, and inspire the next generation to become strong financial advocates. I am grateful to be part of an organization that truly values the communities it serves. North Branch continues to grow and thrive, offering incredible opportunities alongside a strong sense of community and support.
